About Tracy Grammer

Tracy Grammer returns to the Bay Area this fall, just as she's finishing up her 11th recording!

Tracy has performed in solo, duo, trio, and band configurations on coffeehouse, theater, and festival stages since 1997. A favorite on the folk circuit, Tracy is primarily known as a sensitive, creative song interpreter with a springwater clear alto, a girl-next-door stage presence, pristine fingerstyle guitar, beautifully intoned violin, and an unshakable dedication to the legacy of the late songwriter, Dave Carter. Her quick wit and writer's eye also make her a riveting storyteller and at the end of the night, it's often the case that audiences can't decide which they loved better -- the songs, or the stories behind them.

Tracy's show has evolved over the years from a sad remembrance of her late partner to a joyful celebration of life. Continually refining her voice and presentation, Tracy's hope is that her work and her journey will continue to serve as a balm and an inspiration to thousands worldwide. "I'm on the road for one reason," she says. "to restore love."

In addition to performing internationally, Tracy has judged Kerrville New Folk, served as a Folk Alliance panelist and mentor, led songwriting workshops, hosted the Dave Carter Memorial Writer's Round-up for eight years, taught choral groups at a private school in Massachusetts, and delivered the keynote at Cape May Singer-Songwriter Weekend. She has toured as bandmate and opening act for Joan Baez, performed with Hugh Masekela and Odetta as part of the Songs of the Spirit Tour in 2007, and recorded with Mary Chapin Carpenter. She is the only performer invited to play the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival 13 years in a row and promoters everywhere agree: the photos don't do her justice.

“Tracy Grammer is a brilliant artist and unique individual. Her voice is distinctive, as is her mastery over the instruments she plays.”
 - Joan Baez

“One of the finest pure musicians anywhere in folkdom.”
 - Boston Globe

“Her pure voice conveys the simple truths of these songs; her gifts as a musician are like that of a painter who is a master of chiaroscuro, offering light and shadow at every turn.“
 - Mary Chapin Carpenter

"[Grammer] flies solo with a style and grace that must be heard to be believed … she is a voice to be reckoned with.”
 - Village Records
